A 118. SPOUT or neck of vase, incised. Ht. 2 J in. From Sesklo.

Rough greyish brown ware, polished ; cylindrical
shape, with turned out lip. On the side is incised a
forked line with seven cross-bars. (Fig. 35.)

A 121-31. Fragments of polished red ware, plain or striped, as A 101-A 105.

A 121i-4. FRAGMENTS of thin red ware. L. 2J. in. to 4 in. From Tsangli. From bowls similar

to A 101, parts of rim, shoulder and handle, with bosses of various sizes. (Fig. 36.)

A 122i-5. FRAGMENTS of similar red ware. L. jjin. to i\.in. From Tsangli. From vases of

various- shapes : no. 1 (clay grey in fracture) is part of the mouth of an angular form with
globular body and sharp, upright neck ; 2 shows the sharply curved edge of a shoulder ; 3 is
a low cupped base ; 4 is from an open, curved bowl with narrow ridge at the lip; and 5, of
coarse red clay, porous and rough on the inside, has a red wash on light surface. (Fig. 36.)

A 1231-2. BASE and RIM. L. 3 in., 2J in. From Tsani. No. 1 is a cupped base ; and 2 is part

of the turned out rim of a very heavy vase, with fine bright red surface.

A 124l-2. FRAGMENTS of red ware. L. 2-J in., i\ in. From Zerelia. No. 1 is from a thin

upright lip ; 2, from a heavier vase, is decorated with a large flat boss, and has a curious pitted
surface on the reverse side, as A 127, A 136.

A 125l-2. FRAGMENTS, similar. L. i\ in., 3J in. From Rakhmani. No. 1 is a thin lip, as

before ; no. 2, of brownish colour, is convex with a slight turned-out rim, below which the inside
of the vase is rough and unpolished.

A 126. SPOUT, fragmentary. L. 2^ in. From Sesklo. As Ai^jvi Hal SfVxXo, fig. 81. Fine red

ware, polished. Hollow open shape tapering to the front.

A 127i-4. FRAGMENTS of banded ware. L. 2 in. to 4} in. From Tsangli. As Prehistoric

Thessaly, figs. 48, 49 (A 3 c). Polished red ware with yellow bands in the surface, as A 102.
These are sometimes sharply defined, sometimes gradually shaded at their edges, and appear
to have been produced by change in the surface, not by added pigment. Nos. 3 and 4 are of
coarse fabric with pitted surface on the inside : in 3 this is black ; 4 has a raised fillet on
exterior, as A 136.

A 128. FRAGMENT of similar ware. Ht. 2 J in. From Tsani. Red polished surface as last

with four horizontal waved lines at equal intervals. Slightly concave shape with finished edge
at top and bottom and along one rim an irregular incised line (or two) : apparently part of a
large ring-stand.

A 1291-3. FRAGMENTS, similar. L. 3$ in. to 2| in. From Mesiani. Polished in dark and light

stripes, as A 127, etc. Nos. 1 and 2, from a deep curved bowl of thin ware, are also fired red
and black on the outside, where the stripes are vertical ; inside the lip are slightly raised
horizontal bands of dark reddish colour. No. 3, from the base of a large bowl with raised foot,
has close bars on the inside. (Fig. 36.)
