burnished bright red surface which is partly burned black.

probably imitations of Minyan ware. No. 1, with wide turned-out rim and curved body, is
thin and burnished ; no. 2, with sharp shoulder, is of coarser make. Both have blackened
surface.
227. FRAGMENT of black ware. L. 2 in. From Drakhmani. Thick, but fine fabric, with
polished black surface. The inside is flat; the outside curves towards the lip, which is a roll
slightly turned out.

plate with heavy roll rim on the inside. Brown clay with black polished surface.
^ 229. FRAGMENT, with boss-handle. L. 2J in. From Tsangli. Fine black ware resembling
stone, made of very hard and heavy clay. Bevelled lip, sharp shoulder ; and resting on line ot
the shoulder is an evenly modelled pyramidal boss which served for a handle.
A 230. FRAGMENT with boss handle. L. 4 in. From Tsangli. The side of a globular bowl
of coarse ware ; dark brown clay. On the curved side is a large boss divided in two by a wide
groove for string. The rim is preserved, but chipped. (Fig. 46.)
