The main prefigurations of the Yirgin, offcrirg Jesus, in the Old Testament were Hannah,
mother of Samuel, and Abraham. St Bonaventure (1221-74) wrote: Ipsa Anna, matcr Samuelis,
obtulit filium ad serviendum, sed beata Virgo obtulit Filium suum ad sacrificandum. Abraham
voluisli offerre filium tuum sed obtulisti arielem. Sed Virgo gloriosa Filium suum obtulit.'3
Already in the XIth century a conviction arose that Mary, when expressing Her consent
to the Incarnation, agreed to offer Jesus to death. It was Her private oblation, oblatio privata.ĄĄ
This consent was renewed by Her, wh;n, on tb.3 diy of Pjrification, She presentcd Christ in
the Temole. Later, on Calvary tb.3 Virgin accom;)lished Her sacrifice - Her proper sacrificium.45
