The Magical-Medicinal Bowl in the Collections of the
National Museum in Warsaw

The bowl was donated to the Museum by the theatre artist Jadwiga Mro-
zowska-Toeplitz.11 It originates from Iran and was executed in the middle of
the 17th century. The style of floral and figurai decoration together with the
form of writing are characteristic of Persian art during the Safawid era. The
bowl measures 7.5 cm in height and has a diameter of 22 cm. It is made of en-
graved bronze with inscriptions sunk into a black background, while the floral
decoration and figurai representations are engraved in relief. The bowl has
a base measuring 1.3 cm in height and 9 cm in width. The bowl’s rim is
inverted in the shape of a band and slightly depressed. A low meniscus of
bronze 1.3 cm high with a diameter of 4.9 cm is to be found in the middle of
the bowl (Figs. 1-4)
