We can assume that many artists were guided by these kinds of popular
images, which multiplied endlessly some of the most catchy scenes and
compositions, and were in turn a mixture of the motifs adopted from
established iconographical tradition. We are entitled to conclude that
Gramatica, who painted Mary Magdalen many times in his career, and who
also represented the saint in her other, post-conversion roles, was inspired by
these prints as well.
