In all four woodcuts the same compositional scheme was applied. In the
middle of a smali interior stands a press attended to by two printers positioned
on the left hand side. In the foreground one of them is shutting the form (chase)
by means of the movable, upper part of the press, secured by a bolt. Standing
in the background, the second craftsman is holding the printing brushes used
to spread the printing ink on the column. On the right hand side of the press
a typographer is depicted setting out a text in the setting-rule with letter types
selected from a case.
