Gravelot’s print contains a summary of symbolic contents relating to
typography which were known in earlier times. Elaborating compositions
with symbols of wisdom and goodness as attributes of typography leads to
an accentuation of the morał aspect. Ali such elements combine to form
a picture of typography’s greatness as an art, emphasising its high-mindedness:
“TYPOGRAPHIA ARS ARTIUM OMNIUM CONSERVATRIX”.27
