The identification of the sitter as Volkera van Beresteyn (1624-1653), wife
of Salomon van Schoonhoven (1617-1653) and all further details I owe to
R.E.O. Ekkart of RKD (the Hague).

The part of Kolasiński’s Collection preserved in the National Museum
in Warsaw deserves fuli publication and elaboration. This brief essay aims to
draw the attention of scholars to the extraordinary achievements of this art
collector, influential throughout the Continent. I have discovered that of the
paintings sold in 1917 in Berlin, two have been acąuired by major museums,
i. e. Bernardo Bellotto’s Two Officers on Horseback, 1773, by the Kunsthistorishes
Museum in Vienna, inv. no. 9119 (cat. 1965 nr 465), and Abraham BloemaerEs
Juditb with the Head of Holofernes, 1593, by the Stadelsches Kunstinstitut in
Frankfurt am Main, inv. no. 1583; M. Roethlisberger, Abraham Bloemaert,
Doornspijk 1993, no. 32. The search for paintings sold in Berlin in 1917 is
arduous and time-consuming, and reąuires a certain amount of luck, but the
results often prove ąuite enlightening.
