Signac. The work by Seurat under discussion here is the most interesting of
three preparatory studies for the famous large composition Les Poseuses, and
was painted at the end of 1886.71 The model portrayed is probably Madeleine
Knoblock, the first owner of the study.72

The largest group of works in Zapolska’s collection consisted of those by
Paul Serusier. The catalogue from the Twów exhibition in 1906 mentioned
12 paintings, hut four years later Zapolska added another canvas.7’ Today
I know of seven paintings and one drawing. Four of the canvasses are in the
National Museum in Warsaw: The Snake Eaters (1894), The Bride (1895) as
well as Brittany Panels with Children and Brittany Panels with Cows, both dated
1894. In 1998 the Museum received the painting White Cow on deposit,
known from earlier publications (ill. 4). In 1986 the collection had been
enriched with the purchase of a very interesting gouache by the artist entitled
Dream of the Earth (ill. 5).74 The collection of Jaworska includes two of the
