Barbara Ruszczyć

Dr. Barbara Regina Ruszczyć was born in Wilnus on 18th September 1928,
as the youngest daughter of the famous painter Ferdynand Ruszczyć.

After the hardships of war she was forced to forsake her home region and
move to Warsaw, where, following in the footsteps of her older sister, art
historian Dr. Janina Ruszczyć, she began working for the National Museum
in 1949. While working for the Museum she graduated from secondary
school (1950) and pursued further education to the effect of obtaining in
1955 a Master's Degree in Mediterranean archaeology. In 1972 she obtained
her Ph.D. degree for the thesis Egyptian Temples of the Late Period. Her
Professional path lead from junior assistant up to curator, at which post she
remained from 1973 to 1990. She contributed to the editing and publication
of a number of objects belonging to the Museum's collections, including
monuments of importance such as the false door of the tomb of Izi found in
Edfu and the Old Kingdom stone vessels.

She also authored Ancient Art Gallery guidebooks. She was curator of
numerous exhibitions held in the main building of the Museum such as
Ancient Cyprus in 1968 and Gold of Scythians in 1976, as well as a number of
exhibitions in the regional museums. She also coorganised the exhibition of
Faras paintings in Berlin, Essen, The Hague, Zurich and Yienna.
