Plain thin gold band, expanded to join oval chaton. Narrow flat margin about stone which
shows a Cupid walking with a staff. See Cesnola, Cyprus, page 391 : 12.
8. Seal, Swivel. Gold and sard. Diameter iVio inch. Stone SAxWsa inch.
Gold band, tapers slightly. Chaton plain except for a slight double beaded band about the
middle. Stone engraved with Boreas' flight with Oreithyia: winged man holding woman in his
arms, and running. A harp is in the woman's hand. One of the most elaborately engraved gems
that antiquity has handed down to us. See detailed account of same in Cesnola, Cyprus, page
378: 1; plate XXXIX, No. 1.
9. Seal, Swivel. Gold and sard. Diameter 13/io inch. Scarab y%xl/2 inch.
Bow is of gold, flat inside and two-faced outside. Ends are flattened and pierced to receive
fine wire on which scarab is strung; ends of wire are twisted about the bow. The scarab is well
marked on back and sides; bottom shows a combat between two warriors armed with spears and
round shields, one of which is plain while the other has a large round boss. The smaller man
has a conical cap and is striking the larger who seems to be resting on one knee. See Cesnola,

Thin, plain band, flat inside; enlarged to form prominent setting for a seal, which shows
an erect person (Bacchus) clothed below the waist, leaning on a cippus and holding a wand and
streamer. The other hand holds a lute above the head of an animal (panther?). See Cesnola,
Cyprus, page 390: 2; plate XLI, 2.

Gold, solid. Band plain; thickened to form plain setting. Seal is a flat stone with the
figure of a person leaning on a cippus. Left hand extended, holds a wreath. See Cesnola,
