5. APEETO . . .
nYTIONKA . . .
IIYTIE Eni

From Golgoi. On a fragment of calcareous stone. Letters 1/4 inch high. Lines defec-
tive at end, so that translation is impossible, and the purport is uncertain.

6. snEIANA

KT02

From Kythraea. Rudely cut on a block of calcareous stone that may have been part of a
pedestal. Letters 1 yA to 2 inches high, colored red. Proper name only; genitive of

" Sosianax".

7. ...TOSTA

From Neo-Paphos. On a large block of calcareous stone. Merely: the end of an
inscription, and its purport uncertain. Letters 3 inches high.

8........

irpovota

From Citium. Written perpendicularly down the side of an amphora, in red paint. The
writing is cursive, with ligatures, but quite plain. About the shoulder of the amphora are two
ligatures whose reading is uncertain, though « and *ai appear discernible. On the body of the
amphora, opposite the word above, is an undecipherable monogram or ligature. See Vol. II,
Plate CXLV, No. 1078, 1079. The legible word means

" Provision".

9. TAOYS

On a small amphora, painted in red letters just below the neck. Letters 1 inch high. The
above is all that is now legible, but there may have been one or possibly two letters more at the
beginning.
