IMPRESSIONS: Munich, Vienna.
I believe this engraving (not a niello as it is sometimes called) to be copied in reverse
from the larger woodcut (diam. 57) of the same subject, B.134. The woodcut has
more the quality of an original work than the engraving. The Munich impression
is on paper stained red. The report mentioned by Hausmann (p. 28) that the
engraving is in the British Museum is incorrect. A supposed original was bought
for £5 5s. in 1890, but it is the Petrak copy printed on old paper and cut down to
the border-line.
