the arch of the fibula were strung disks of bone and amber
with their outer surfaces so curved as to form, when
joined together, a bow of the leech type. A pair of thin
bone disks flanked the now missing central disk of amber.
Between them, strung on the arch, is a tiny tube of wood
evidently inserted in the central perforation of the central
amber disk to hold it tight in place. The outermost disks
of bone are thicker than the others.
31. Bronze Fibula. Pl. XIX. M.S.773b, L. 0.039
m. Catch-plate and end of pin missing. Similar to the
foregoing. Of the disks strung on the arch, but three,
of amber, remain.
32. Similar Bronze Fibula. PL XIX. M.S.773c,
L. 0.039 m. Of the fibula only a piece of the arch re-
mains. The central amber disk was flanked on either
side by two bone disks, one, the outermost, exceedingly
thin, the other disk, next to the central amber bead,
thicker and ornamented with countersunk circles for
inlay.
33. Similar Bronze Fibula. PL XIX. M.S.782,
L. 0.048 m. Fibula proper intact. Only one amber
disk preserved. On the pin of the fibula are strung three
rings, two large, one small.
34. Similar Bronze Fibula. PL XIX. M.S.774a,
L. 0.037 m. Fibula intact. Outermost disks missing.
Three pieces of amber are separated by exceedingly thin
disks of bone. A small bronze ring is strung on the pin.
35. Similar Bronze Fibula. Pl. XIX. M.S.774b,
L. 0.037 m. Fibula proper intact. Three amber disks
and one of bone preserved. At the center of the arch is
preserved a small cylindrical bead of wood as in No. 30.
Ring strung on pin.
36. Bronze Fibula. Pl. XIX. M.S.770a, L. 0.050
m. Pin broken. Ornament of incised lines vertical at
either end, horizontal in the middle as in Fig. 77.
37. Similar Bronze Fibula. Pl. XIX. M.S.770b,
L. 0.052 m. Pin broken.
38. Silver Fibula. Pl. XIX. M.S.887, L. 0.032 m.
Intact. Although catalogued with the objects from
Narce 70 M, this fibula does not appear in the record
photograph of that tomb, whereas it can be identified in
the record photograph of objects from this tomb. Hol-
low. Small bronze ring strung on pin. No ornament.
39. Bronze and Glass Fibula. Pl. XIX. M.S.
772a, L. 0.038 m. Only a stub remains of the bronze
arch on which the large glass bead is strung. The ends
of the bead have been bevelled; against these smooth
edges were probably small truncated and perforated
cones of bronze, the narrower ends of which would have
rested against the spring and catch-plate of the fibula.
MonAnt. IX, col. 154, Fig. 2 from Tomb 1, Cancelli,

Cetona. In the Metropolitan Museum are two fibulae
with similar glass beads which have similar flanking
pieces of gold.
40. Similar Bronze and Glass Fibula. Pl. XIX.
M.S.772b, L. 0.045.
41. Bronze Fibula. PL XIX. M.S.769, L. 0.021.
Spring, pin and part of catch-plate missing. Two lateral
and three median knobs.
42. Six Bronze Fibulae. Pl. XIX. M.S.769a-f.
Pin of d missing, and tips of some catch-plates broken.
In their present state the length varies from 0.037 m. to
0.043 m. Each has two lateral knobs in the middle of
the arch, the bases of which, with one exception, are
striated. Between these knobs are two concentric circles
and a dot. On two specimens, the dot and the groove
between the circles are so deep as to imply inlay. Be-
tween this central ornament and the ends of the arch,
transverse striations.
43. Bronze Serpentine Fibula. Pl. XIX. M.S.
776, L. 0.052 m. Pin, spring and most of catch-plate
missing.
44. Amber Pendant. Pl. XX. M.S.1083e, L. 0.029
m. Top broken. Transferred from Tomb 23 M on the
evidence of the record photographs. Grooves at neck.
Terminal socket.
45. Amber Pendant. Pl. XX. M.S.1080d, L. 0.022
m. Transferred from Tomb 23 M. Intact. Grooves
at neck. Terminal socket in which remains a tiny tube
of silver within which are traces of a wooden core. A
terminal ornament is implied similar to those of two
similar pendants from the Gircolo dei Monili, Vetulonia,
Montelius, Pl. 182, 4.
46. Amber Pendant. Pl. XX. M.S.799, L. 0.019
m. Intact. Grooves at neck. Pendant proper flatter
than in the foregoing. Terminal socket in which re-
mains a core of wood.
47. Amber Pendant. Pl. XX. M.S.799a, L. 0.017
m. Intact. Grooved neck. Traces of the bronze wire
on which it was strung. Terminal socket in which is a
tiny silver tube filled with a core of wood.
48. Similar Amber Pendant. Pl. XX. M.S.1083g,
L. 0.016 m. Top broken. Transferred from Tomb
23 M.
49. Amber Pendant. Pl. XX. M.S.1083f, L. 0.017
m. Transferred from Tomb 23 M. Top broken.
Grooved neck. Perpendicular perforation in which may
be seen at either end a tiny silver tube filled with a core
of wood.
50. Amber Ring. Pl. XX. M.S.1081i, D. 0.013 m.
Transferred from Tomb 23 M.
