they were stolen from the temporary quarters in which
they were unpacked. They included four bracelets, three
fibulae, and a pendant in the form of a comb.
Pottery
1. Biconical Urn. PL XXIV. M.S.1112, H. 0.308
m., D. 0.237 m. Restored. Half of one handle missing.
Fabric of medium fine texture, grey at core, outer surface
red, medium polish. Traces of white design, no pattern
discernible. Handmade except rim, which is made on
the wheel.
2. Vase-Carrier. PL XXIV. M.S.1113, H. 0.319
m., D. 0.206 m. Fabric as in the foregoing, handmade.
No certain traces of wheel.
3. Bowl. Pl. XXIV. M.S.1114, H. 0.182 m., D.
0.252 m. Rim restored. Fabric and technique as in the
foregoing.
4. Jar. PL XXIV. M.S.1U5, H. 0.199 m., D.
0.193 m. Half of one handle restored. Fabric as in the
foregoing, red at core, outer surface brown to red. Body
handmade; foot and neck made on the wheel. The up-
right rim has horizontal grooves. Scant traces of white
paint on handles. The unusual shape is a variation of a
lydion, with the substitution of an upright rimless neck
and the addition of handles.
5. Footed Bowl. Pl. XXIV. M.S.1116, H. 0.149
m., D. 0.179 m. Foot modern, but fenestrations are indi-
cated. Rim restored where, perhaps, an upright handle
was broken away. Handmade except grooved rim,
which is wheel-made. String holes.
6. Footed Bowl. PL XXIV. M.S.1117, H. 0.163
m., D. 0.163 m. Small restorations on foot. Fabric of
medium fine texture, buff at core, outer surface brown
to red. Handmade.
7. Bowl. PL XXIV. M.S.1118, H. 0.069 m., D.
0.172 m. Rim chipped. Fabric and technique as in the
foregoing. Handmade, clumsy workmanship. Om-
phalos in floor.
8. Cup. Pl. XXIV. M.S.1119, H. 0.035 m., D.
0.07 m. Intact. Fabric of medium fine texture, buff at
core, outer surface black with some mottling. Hand-
made. High angular handle with strut. Good polish.
Omphalos in floor.
COMPARANDA
8. Cf. No. 12 from Narce 2 F, Pl. XXXIII; Nos. 6 and
7 from Narce 4 F, Pl. XII; Nos. 18 and 19 from Narce
105 F, Pl. XXV; No. 15 from Vulci 66, PL XLV; and a
cup from Barnabei’s Tomb XXXII, Narce, MonAnt. IV,
col. 443, Nos. 33 and 34 and col. 204, Fig. 91. Two cups,
Nos. 29 and 30 from Narce 1, Pl. XXXI, were probably
also of this type.

Frothingham’s diagram of this tomb is shown in Fig. 31.
His only note is that it was a trench-tomb similar in plan
to Narce 2. The large vase-carrier, No. 1, and the
ribbed bowl, No. 2, do not appear in the record photo-
graph with the other pottery and bronzes, but in a sepa-
rate photograph marked, however, with the number of
this tomb. Moreover, the twenty other vases are num-
bered on the back of their photograph, and on the back
of the photograph of the vase-carrier and the ribbed bowl
are the numbers 19 and 20, instead of 21 and 22. But
because so tall a vase-carrier as No. 1 would necessarily be
photographed separately, these two pieces have been in-
cluded in the list of objects from the tomb, and the dis-
crepancy in numbering regarded as a slip.

Pottery
1. Vase-carrier. Pl. XXV. M.S.882, H. 0.691 m.,
D. 0.375 m. Mended. Fabric of medium fine texture,
red throughout. Handmade, except the rim and edge
of the base, which seem wheel-made. A row of repouss6
knobs below rim on flaring top; two bulbs each orna-
mented with a row of circular perforations and separated
by ridges; three rows of arrow-shaped perforations on the
flaring base; below these another row of repousse knobs.
2. Ribbed Bowl. Pl. XXV. M.S.884, H. 0.291 m.,
D. 0.39 m. Small restorations. Fabric and technique
as in the foregoing. Rim grooved. Two horizontal
ridges below rim, body ribbed perpendicularly between
these and another horizontal ridge above the base.
3. Vase-carrier. PL XXV. M.S.885, H. 0.268 m.,
D. 0.182 m. Restored. Fabric and technique as in the
