Entrance At the point where the South-North Corridor reaches the Central

tral Court Court it steps up over a stylobate running from East to West—(restored in

fromS.- Fig. 520, together with the adjacent pavement slabs)—the well-preserved

dor. angle of which is seen about 3! metres West. This stylobate, which forms

a prominent feature of the later Palace all along the West side of the Court

and connects itself with a pillared portico, no doubt originally marked its

Southern border in the same way. Owing to the slope of the hill, however,

this part of the original plateau has suffered a good deal of denudation, so

that from this point even the foundations of the boundary line on this side

have disappeared. Incidentally, as will be seen from Fig. 520, a fine view
