Tn consequence of His Sicilian Majesty's having lately
taken off' the Prohibition to search for Antiquities, which
prohibition had long (ubsisied in this Kingdom , several
Excavations have been made by the Proprietors of Land
in the neighbourhood of Nola, S. Agata de Goti , Treb-
bia, S. Maria di Capua (the spot on which the ancient
City of Capua ssourished), in Puglia, and in other parts
of the Two Sicilies, and many Sepulchres have been di-
scoverd containing Earthen Vases of beautifull forms, with
Elegant figures , either drawn , or painted on them , of
the sort that have been usually called Etruscan Vases, at
tho there now seems to be liitle doubt of such monu-
ments of Antiquity being truly Grecian.

As it is well known, that J am a great admirer, and
Colle&or of this sort of Antiquities, not having during a
residence of Six and Twenty Years in this Country , o-
mitted any opportunity of purchasmg at a liberal price,
such as came within my reach; and that I thought worthy
of a place in my Colle6i:ion Many of the lately discoverd
vases have found their way to me , and are fortunately
