This map was drawn by Guillaume Sanson, son of the famous Nicolas S., and
embraces the whole American continent. In North-West it extends above Cape Blanco
showing California as an isolated island. The group of islands west of Baffins’s Bay
forms with Greenland one sole continent. Central and South America are particularly
fully treated. There is also an indication of the Falkland-Islands. In some places
slightly stained, otherwise well preserved.

A rare map, showing California as an island, north of which the coast of the
continent breaks off. There are still many blank spaces within the territories of Brazil
and the United States.
In some places slightly stained and mounted.

Peter Bienewitz or Apianus was born at Leissnig at Saxony in 1495. He died
at Ingolstadt, where he held a professorship in the University for more than thirty
years, in I551-

On 1. 17 vo. : “Non solum autem praedictae très partes nunc sunt latius illustratae,
verum et alia quarta pars ab Americo Vesputio sagacis ingenij uiro, inventa est.
Quam ab ipso Americo eius inventore Amerigen quasi Americi terram siue Amé-
ricain appellari volunt”. — Bottom margin stained. With MS. notes on title and last
leaf. On the recto of leaf 24 the year “MDLI” has erroneously been printed “MDII”.

A finely got-up atlas containing amongst others a worldmap, 5 maps relating to
Asia, 3 to Africa and 4 to America. The maps are printed on stout paper,
and are adorned with charming cartouches engraved after Marillier by P. G.
Berthault, P. Ph. Choffard and others. The most beautiful frontispiece has been engraved
by Prevost after Monnet (1762).
Here and there somewhat foxed. Margin of title-page and of a few other leaves
slightly stained.

par plusieurs auteurs (Janvier, Bonne, Zannoni etc.). 2 nd edit.
Fol. Paris, Lattre et Delalain (1771). Half calf. 75 —
Contanis amongst others a worldmap, io maps relating to America, 12 to Asia
and 7 to Africa. Printed on stout paper, the boundaries of the maps being coloured.
There are wanting: Sphère armillaire, Flandre etc. . . . and Pays d’Aunis etc.
