Separate edition of this most rare and valuable booklet, published in the same
year as the “Relation des Missions” by the same author of which it formed part. The
great rarity of this separate edition appears from the fact that most bibliographers
such as Leclerc, Sabin and Ludewig quote it only on the authority of Brunet. This
“Introduction” served as a basis to Préfontaine’s Dictionnaire Galibi (1763).
P. Pelleprat, a Jesuit, was born at Bordeaux in 1609 and embarked in 1639 on
a missionary voyage to the West Indies where he visited the different establishments
of the Jesuits on the French islands. Later on he settled in Mexico. He died at Puebla
in 1667.

Original edition. Contains two letters from Martin de Valentia and one from Peter
of Gand alias de Mura which are of outstanding interest for our knowledge of the
religious condititions of Mexico at that time. The letter of de Mura has been trans-
lated into French by Ternaux and is published in his “Recueil” 1838 pp. 193—203.
There is an old inscription on the title referring to the binding of the volume.

Fourth edition of a book which has the merit of having been the first Spanish-
Mexican manual of conversation ever written. It is the most useful and practical hand-
book for anyone wishing to learn the Mexican language such as it was spoken short
time after the conquest of Mexico by the Spaniards. The first edition of the book
was also the first work on the Mexican language to have been written and printed
by a secular author.
