Very rare. The author was a Franciscan, and for 20 years taught the Mexican
language in the convent of his order. He was curé of Milpa-Alta, in the diocese of
Mexico.
The frontispiece slightly stained, a portion of the text with wormholes.

dealings of Gonzalo de Barrasa, merchant and citizen of Ante-
quera in the valley of Huaxaca (Oajaca), and to the estate left
by him. Spanish documents, dated: Oajaca, April 4th 1554,
Mexico, July 23rd 1557, and Puebla de los Angeles, Febr. 18th
1557. 7 leaves. Fol. 300 ~
Original documents from Mexico written in catenary letters by different hands,
fairly well legible.
Comprising:
1. Barrasa acknowledges the receipt of 1000 “pesos de tipusque” from Juan Baut,
de Abendâno in favour of Diego de Guinea y de Martin de Aberrucia, merchant and
citizen of Mexico, his executor, Oajaca, Apr. 4,h 1554- Signed by the clerk Franc,
de Herrera. On the last page is written an order by D. Diego de Guevara ,,Alcalde
ordinario de Mexico” to Cristoval de Queseda holder of the Barrasa estate to pay
303 “pesos de oro comun” to Aberrucia. Mexico, Oct. 4th 1556. Signed by the Al-
calde and Petro de Salazar, acknowledged by the clerk Martin de Aborruca (!) July
23rd 1557 with his signature. 4 pp.
2. Order of Franc, de Reynoso, Alcalde of Los Angeles to Crist, de Quesada to
pay Diego de Baeza Aleman the 50 pesos gold, which he had delivered to Barrasa to
forward to the government of Castile. Puebla, Febr. 18th 1557* With the signatures
of the Alcalde and his clerk, witnessed by de Baeza at the same date, with his signa-
ture and that of the clerk. 2 pp.
3. Inventory of the furniture and garments found in the house of Barrasa, with the
prices they fetched at the sale. Without date and signature. 4 pp.
Very interesting documents giving details of the private life of the first settlers at
Oajaca and other places in Mexico. The town of Antequera de Oajaca was founded
in 1528.
