The rare original edition of this highly esteemed work (Cf. Rich and Leclerc 1 c.)
containing as it does a large mass of valuable information on nearly every aspect of

The author was one of the most accomplished mariners of his time and an in-
defatigable scholar too. The relative rarity of this first edition appears from the fact
that it does not figure in the comprehensive American collection of the distinguished
bibliophile J C. Rodriguez (See cat. 1907).
