den Thron gefolgt. Die Rede nimmt auch auf die zahlreichen kriegerischen Wirren
der Zeit Bezug.

300 leaves, of which the last is blank. Original wooden boards covered
with blind-tooled leather, with 10 chased metal pieces at corners and
centre and 2 metal clasps. 750.—

A well preserved copy with many red painted Initials and rubrics. On leaf 7 a a
beautiful painted initial C (48: 39 mm): The letter itself is shaped out of
blue painted leaf-work and set against a background of violet decorated with yellow
Ornament and enclosed in an alternately red and yellow frame. Two nice painted
scrollo are on the inner and lower margin. Slightly wormed at beginning and end.
On the first blank leaf old owner’s inscription and stamp.
The leather of the binding is somewhat rubbed and wormed. The right-hand
bottom comer of the front cover is mended. The blind-tooling of the upper cover is
made after the well-known pomegranate design surrounded by a border exhibiting
hunting-scenes. The lower cover has a lozenge-shaped central panel, the frame of
which is likewise filled up with hunting scenes, while the outer border is formed of
lozenge-shaped flower stamps.
The author, an English Franciscan friar, flourished in the first half of the
13th Century. The work is the most important encyclopaedia of mediaeval natural
Science, being thus of particular interest for the history of astro-
nomy, chronology, geography, medicine, mineralogy,
in us i c , zoology, etc.

durch ein kleines Loch im Papier beschädigt. Die innere linke Ecke d. Randes d.
ersten Blätter schadhaft.
Seb. Brant, Humanist u. Rechtsgelehrter (gest. in Straßburg 1521), wurde welt-
berühmt durch sein „Narrenschiff“. Die Expositiones bilden ein juristisches Fach-
wörterbuch.
