OVER CROWDING
It has been very good of the
authorities to sanction permits tor running
regular services between Kalimp.-ng and
Darjeeling The public in general is really
lhankful to them for tliis hut what about
the over crowding in the vehicle? that
run bet veen these places ? At times as
many as thirteen people are lifndin the
service vehicles and all of them are
required‘.to pay the full charge. It seems
that no effort has ever been, made by
thd authorities to j r vent over crowding.
Not only-this; what is more, staggering
is the "fact that very often it is found
that, the services do not maintain the
time' schedule whereby passengers are put
16' great inconvenience It has also been
seen 11:at on-several days the vt hides
;db not runatall on. the ground that
there were no passengers 'Hut what
ftbout those who ‘cat<h tfie bus5 in bet-
ween, Kabmpong .and Darjeeling?
We hope the authorities .would do
'something to see that over crowding is
prevented and that the schedule of time
is observed^

THINGS WE WANT TO KNOW
By FvTr. Maurice Hyam
In the comprehensive 5-year plan
mentioned in the Prime Minister s broad-
cast on New Years eve, what place is
found in it for this usually neglected
District of Darjeeling ? It is hoped that,
amongst other projects envisaged, an
elaborate hydro-electric scheme will be
included to supply energy to the entire
District as far as Jalpaiguri at least for
domestic and industrial purposes.
