NEPAL RICE EXPORT
TO TIBET BANNED
Kathmandu, March 22
The Nepalese Govern-
ment is understood to
have refused a private
contractor permission to
procure rice from Nepal
Terai areas for export to
Tibet.

According to reports
reaching here ( here is ‘‘very
acute” food scarcity in
parts of Tibet.

The contractor is un-
derstood to have been-told
bv the’ Nepalese Govern
ment that, sineo Nepal
herself was anxious fo
meet .her food deficit no
surplus rice, would bp
available at present for
export.

It is learnt no official
request lias so- far been
received by the Nepalese
Government from Tibetan
authorities for supply of
rice.

concerned, KLM will inau-
gurate a new service from
Amsterdam to Klagenfurt,
Austria, about the middle
of May

sionally he operated once
a week (on Sundays) with.

Secretary on grounds of
health and his place ha3
been taken over bv Sri
D. B. Chettry, Municipal
Commissioner, Kurseong.
The other joint Secretary
is the Sub Divisional
Agricultural Ofificer.

The ‘'Marketing Sec-
tion” of the Govt, of West
Bengal will not be able
to come to the Exhibi-
tion this year due to
engagements elsewhere it
is further learnt here. Tt
used to sell a lot of useful
Articles to the public every
year in this exhibition.

Kurseong, March 24 -
An employee of tha
D. H-. Railway was attac-
ked by. a daring burglar
yesterday in his quarters
at about 8 30 P.‘ M. When
•the thief tried to gag him
jbe ran upstairs and han-
ging himself from the
window of his two storied
house raised, the cry of
“thief”. Next tninute his
house was s’orrour.ded by
the police and nearly .700
people. A frantic search
of the house and the
vicinity by the police and
the public, for half an
hour .failed to trace the
thief, The place being in
the most busy locality of
the town and considering
the hour at which the
incident took place this
can be ranked as the most
daring attempt at robbery
of the year in Kurseong.

RELEASED

Kathmandu, March 22
It is reliably learnt
that Shri Bharat Shamsher
Jung Bahadur Rana, Gene
ral Secretary of Nepal
Rastravadi Gorkha Pari-
shad, has been released
unconditionally from de-
tention.

It may be recalled
that he was arrested last
month at Pokhra under sec-
urity Act and was later on
transferred to Kathmandu.
