COMMITTEE
Darjeeling July 2,

Sri Tenzing Norkey,
who was expected at
Darjeeling in the first
week of July, has suddenly
left for England. People
at Darjeeling were agog
with excitement and an
unprecedented welcome
awaited him in his home-
coming. Though a little
disappointed his warm
words to the people of
Darjeeling have endeared
him bo much that the
first enthusiasm has not
slackened in the least.
Darjeeling takes pride in
the honour he is receiving
in foreign lands.

Tenzing Reception
Committee, Darjeeling has
been formed on district-
wise basis with Sri S.Dutt
Mnzumdar, Deputy Com-
ntisioner, Darjeeling as the
Pieeident, Sri R. S. 1 ra-
sad, M L.C., as the Chair-
man, Sri Balbahadur
Chhetri and Si i Deo-
Prakash Rai as the Joint
Secretaries and Sri H.D.
Lama as Treasurer. In
response to a call given
by this Committee the
Siliguri and the Rurseong
Municipalities and also
people of all the important
centres from Bagdogra to
Darjeeling have formed
local reception committees
for according the most
rousing reception to the
Conqueror of the Everest
This Committee has also

zation (l.LO ) by delegates

Geneva, Switzerland.

human rights and raising
living standards throughout
the world. Ho colled for the
abolition of poverty, want
and oppression, both ceoiio.

PAKISTAN

Journal, a Karachi month-
ly, invited Everest con-
queror Sherpa Tenzing
Norkey with his family on
June 25th “to spend a
month sight seeing in Pa-
kistan as our guest aa a
mark of appreciation of
your' remarkable achieve-
ment.”

The invitation has
been extended to Tenzing
through tha Pakistan De-
puty High Commissioner
in Calcutta. ^ .

LODHOMA VANA MAHOTSAVA

Lodhoma, July 4.

The local Agriculture
staff of the West Bengal
Govt, with the co-opera-
tion of Secretary, Primary
Congress and Secretary,
Social Education Library
of'Lodhoma, held a general
meeting on the ,occasion
of Vanamahotsava under
the presidentship of Sri
K. M. Pradhap, President,
Poultry Improvement So-
ciety,' op 2nd Inst at the
local primary' school pre-
mises. The meeting was
attended by all the govt,
servants of Post Office,
Police Out Poet and Diet.
Board Dispensary &.some
villagers. Seedlings
of trees were planted by
all. with groat interest.
Vana mahotsava of this
kind was celebrated here
for the first time.
