RIVER VA1LEY PROJECT

different applications in
respect of built-it parts
for permanent mechanical
equipment by subsequent
machining and other ope-
rations.

All the evidence that
has been collected, sup-
ports the advantages to
be gained from standardi-
sation at all levels of
planning, design procure-
ment, and subsequent ins-
tallation. The impetus of
specialisation emphasises
the need for continued
formulation of specifica-
tions by a national stan-
dardising body for mate-
rials used on dams in
consultation with all the
organisations engaged in
executing the various River
Valley Projects in progress
or yet in the planning
stages in the country.

In the context of
India's programme of
River Valley Projects,
standardisation will play
an important part both
in the field of design and
construction. The Indian
Standards Institution is
doing pioneer work in this
line. Our self-sufficiency
in the choice of materials
and confidence in the
dependability of thoirHise
are going up wiih the
issue of each Indian Stan-
