REPUBLIC DAY

The Nation celebrate!
Republic Day today.
Broadcasting on the eve
of eighth anniversary of
Republic Day the Presi-
dent Dr. Rajendra Prasad
said ''A day of National
rejoioing as it is, every
one of us should observe
it in a spirit of happi-
ness an 1 good cbeer At
the same time it is a
day of dedication when
every Citizen should take
the pledge uf service of
the nation and renew and
resolve to contribute his
or her mite to the build-
ing up of the India of
our dreams." ^
There were many
heartening developments
during the year 1957.
Indias status as a world
power was maintained by
muoh further diplomatic
visits. At home also there
were • great progress in
economio fields.

On this occasion all
of us should take pledge
to work for the oountry.

The 2nd Agricultural,
Industrial & Health exhibi-
tion was opened by iri
J. C. Talukdar I.A.S. De-
puty Commissioner Dar-
jeeling on the 23rd January
58 in presence of thou-
sands of men, women,
and children.

In a short speeoh
made on the ocoasion Sri
lalukdar dwelt upon the
value of exhibitions. He
said the exhibitions are
organised to educate the
people about the various
nation building works of
the Government and not
to give publicity to the
work of a particular de-
partment or official. While
thanking the people ' of
Kalimpong for their gene-
rous contributions and
active oo-operation in exhi-
bition 8ri Talukdar hoped
that people of the villages
will learn many things
from the exhibition.

in the evening.

On 26th January,
after the Republic Day
celebrations, Rani Cbuni
Dorjee distributed the
prizes and certificate to
the winners of prizes in
exhibition and sports.
Sri R.N. Sen Qupta. I.A.S.
thanked the people for
their active oo operation
to make Mela a success.
