OLYMPIC GAMES

The XVIIth Olympic
Games were opened cm
Thursday at - Rome in
pretence of one lac sport
loving people. ■ Altogether
eight y five nations are
participating this year.
Olympic, games are gra-
dually heooming popular
sinoa the games were
founded in the year 1896.
It is unique that all t ho
oountries are taking part
in the Olympio games
in spite of their political
and other differences.
Such a meeting is possi-
ble only during the Games.
This time there will be
greater competition among
the participating countries,
however, we hope this
meeting of the sportsmen
from all over the world
will help to a certain
extent in bringing better
understanding between the
na'ions.__

ALLEGED SHOP LIFTERS
ARRESTED

Darjeeling, Aug. 25

An alleged, gane of
shop-lifters who has been
operating here sinoe yes-
terday was c%ugbt by
police as they were about
to leave the town with
tfieir booty of expensive
saries, kashmiri shawls
and curio valued at over
Rs. 2,000.

It transpires these
people visited shops dis-
playing wares for the
ensuing Puja. Two well-
dressed men among them
entered the shops and
asked to be shown some
artioles. As they pretended
examining them, others
ttauding nearby stealthily
removed whatever goods
they oould lay hands
on.

Polioe on reoeiving
oomplaints from the duped
merchants made inquiries
and arrested the suspected
leader. Aoting on bis
information, police later
arrested six others of his
g»ng.
