The Speoial Corres-
pondent of "The Daily'
Telegraph" in Kalimpong
has despatched a lorjg
messnge of a ten-man
delegation from Sikkim
to New Delhi with a
memorandum demanding
ohangei in the present
regime. The Correspondent
foreoasts "the beginning
of a new orises in India's
strategic proteotorate on
the Himalayan border "
The delegation is led by
Kazi Khangsarpa, Presi-
dent of the Sikkim Na-
tional Congress. Accord-
ing to this Correspondent,
an ultimatum will be
delivered to the effeet
that if the demands of
the party are not met
"Satyagraha" would be
launched, and this would
be highly embarrassing
and "even dangerous" to
the New Delhi Govern-
ment. The oonoentratiou
of Chinese troops in the
Chumbi valley is "a dag-
ger thrust into the heart
of India". Though thlra
is no further news of
Sikkim developments, it
is strongly believed in
London-Indian oirole that
the Nehru Government
would be able to handle
the situation and intro-
duce neoeasary reforms in
Sikkim.
The well-known Swiss
publishers, Messrs Raicher
Verlag of Zurich have
brought out twe magni-
ficient volumes un the
majestic Alpine range, viz,
"Die Gipfelwelt Der Haute-
Route", a volume on Swiss
part of Montblauo and
SaasFee, and "Die Klas*is
chen Gipftlbesteig-Ungen i)er
Alpin". Both the volumes
are by Mon. Andre Koch,
and translated from the
Frenoh, which, 1 am sure,
will be popular to the
Indians living in the Hi-
malayan region. There
are 85 brilliant photogra-
phic reproductions in the
first volume, and 8u in
the seoond volume. They
are masterpieces of superb
mountain photography.
Both the volumes should
be in possession of all
the Indian mountaineers.
The readers at Kalimpong,
Darjeeling, Bhutan and
Sikkim will particularly
welcome and marvel at
these two books. There
should be copies of these
books in Frenoh, German
and English in the Dar-
jeeling Institute of Moun-
taineering.
