SIKKIM CONGRESS
MEETING

Id a well-attended
public meeting organised
by the All Sikkim Na
tional Congress, four Re-
solutions of both looal
.and Sikkim-wide interest
and importance were una-
ni in on sly adopted. The mee-
ting was held under the
Chairmanship of Kazi
Lhendup Dorji Khangcar-
pa of Chakhung. As far
as 'this west-most corner
of Sikkim is concerned, a
corner which also happens
to fall within the private
monastery estates, the
attendance at the meeting
was unprecedented, with
more tbr.n a thousand
people participating, and
followed by more tban a
mile long procession.

Among the main spea-
kers who addressed the
gathering were Sri Son'am
Tshering, the Vion Presi-
dent and Sri C I). Rai
Councillor in the Sikkim
Council.

Besides passing the
Resolutions the people's
protest to, and demand
for, radical obanges in
the recently promulgated
Sikkim Subjects Regula-
tion Act, the dire neces-
sity for the immediate
framing of a written Cons-
titution for Sikkim, the
urgent need for the imple-
mentation of the Seoond
Five Year Plan keeping

in .mind what should be
the main nbjeotive.

In his presidential
speech. Kuzi Lhendup
Dorji-Kkangsarpa told the
gathering that m<w it was
high time that the people
of Sikkim get ready,
tinder the banner of the
All-Sikkiin National Cong-
res.- to fight a crucial
political battle for the
betterment of thn down-
trodden people of Sikkim.
