Kalimpong, May 11
Rabindranath Tagore'a
birthday was celebrated
at Kalimpong in the even-
ing of the 8th May at
the local Town Hall. The
funotion wai organised by
" Hilanee Sangha " and
many looal artists parti-
cipated in it. An one-
act play. "Bini Paisar
Bhoj" composed by Ra.
bindranath was staged.
Rabindra Sangeet, dance
& recitation wu alio in
the programme.

The documentary film
"Rabindranath and 8an-
tmikeUn" was shown
after the drama.

AT KALIMPONG

Kalimpong, May 7
A brunch of the State
Bank of India was dec-
lared open this morning
by Sri D. C. Mookerjee,
9, D. O. Kalimpong. Sri
Dutta, Registrar of Co-
operative Societies who was
the Chief Guest spoke on
the role of State Bank &
Co-operative movement in
India While welcoming the
guests, Sri A. R. Dutta,
Agent of theBank hoped
that the Branch will fill up
a long felt want of the
town. A light refreshment
was served to the guests
present. The bank has
been housed in the newly
constructed municipal
Building near the Court.

E.F.R. MEMBER SHOT
BY CHINESE
Kalimpong, May 10

A member of the
Eastern Frontier Rifles,
posted at the gates of
Chinese Trade Agenoy here,
was hit by an airgun
slog recently. The shot
it is reported was fired
from within the Agenoy
compound and it is belie-
ved that a Senior officer
of the Agency was res-
ponsible for it. The Go.
vernment of India has
lodged an strong protest
to the Chinese authorities.

schools. A public meet-
ing was held near the
Brnbmo Samaj Hall in

spoke on the life & works
of the Poet.

The highlights of the
day's programme was the
Variety Entertainment
presented at the Raj
Rajsewari hall in the
evening Prizes for the
Essay competition organi-
sed in connection with
the oentenary oelebration
were also distributed.

SAVINGS CAMPAIGN IN
, DARJEELING ,
'Darjeeling, May 10

The Small Savings
Campaign in Darjeeling
is gaining grounds. Col-
lection from the various
savings schemes from
April 1, 1961 to the end
of February '62 was Rs.
23 lakh as against a total
collection of Rj. 20 lakh
in the previous financial
year. . .,'

In 1960 61,. Rs. ,20
lakh was collected against
the target of Re. 13 lakh
and in 1961-62, till Feb-
ruary 1962, more than
Rs. 23 lakh had been
collected against the tar-
gel of Rn. 26 lakh fixed
for the district.

The importance of the
Small Savings movement
was recently discussed at
a Seminar organised at
the District Information
Centre, Uarjseling. The
Sub-Divisional Offioer,
Darjeeling, presided and
students from different
High Schools participated
and actively took part in
the deliberations.

The Seminar has evin-
ced keen interest parti-
cularly among the students
and younger people.
