CAMP AT KURSEONG

Kurseong opened the 26
Lok 3ahay*k Sena Camp
at the Rifle Range Qround
Kurseong on August 1,
1962. Speaking on the
oooassion, Shri Bhatta-
•herjee aaid that the
objeot of the Lok Saha-
yak Sena is to impart
preliminary military train-
ing to the trainees and
also inonloate in them
sense of disoipline and
•elf-reliance. He urged
span the trainees to lire
up to the ideale of the
camp and utilise the
eduoation eto when they
go baek to the villages.
His spseoh was rsndered
into Nepali by the Sub-
divisional Pnblioity Offi-
cer, Kurseong. Major
Devak Ram, Offioer Com-
manding of the Camp
explained the courses of
training and exhorted the
trainees to take advantage
of it and be good oitizens
of the State.

625 trainees drawn
from different parts of
Darjeeling district will
reoeive training in - the
camp whieh will last for
two months. Certificates
will be awarded to them
on oompletion of the train-
ing and their names will
be registered in the Em-
ployment Bxoh'ange, Dar-'
joeting.

HANDICRAFTS SOCIETY

Twentyfive ladies of
Sonada Bazar under the
Jorebunglow.Xukhiapokhri
Stage II Bloek in Dar-
jeeling sadar sub division
have organised a ''Ladies
Handiorafts Society". The
meeting was presided over
by Smt. Kinnu Bhotiani.

The Sooiety will coi-
led the knitteo wollen
garments from its mem-
bers and sell them in
the market in order to
ensure a better return for
its members.

A Manila Kala Ken-
dra, an organisation of
similar nature, is also
functioning at Sukhia-
pokhri.

AWARDED PRIZE

Kalimpong, Aug. 3
Bhalukhope K. M. in
Kalimpong Blook-I won
the Third Prize in West
Bengal for well preserva-
tion of tree* planted during
the Vanamahoteava in
I960.

The prize was given
at a function held in
Calcutta, Dr Ram Snbhag
Singh, Union Late Minis-
ter of Agriculture, gave
away the prizes The
Shield Proaented to Bha-
lukhop Busty was recei-
ved by Shri B. C. Moker-
jee, I. A 8.. Deputy Com-
missioner, Darjeeling.
