SIKKIM ASSURES FULL
SUPPORT TO INDIA

The Mabarajknmar of
Sikkiru, Mr. P. T. Nam-
gya), today extended his
State's full cooperation
and assistance to the
Government of India and
the Indian Army autho-
rities in their arduous
tatk of fighting the Chi-
nese aggression.

He said that the Go-
vernment of India as a
''protector of Sikkim has
acceded to our request
and sent men and material
for our defence The peo-
ple of Sikkiru. had rallied
behind the Government at
this grave hour and had
pledged their fullest sup-
port to mobilization for
defence purposes.

Mr. Namgyal was
speaking at a function in
the Sikkim Palace for the
distribution of winter clo
things and books and
periodicals on behalf of
the people of Sikkim to
Iudian j a wans. The Ma-
haraja of Sikkim presided
■ ■ over the function, which
'-' was attended, among
others, by the Indian
• Political Officer, Mr I.J.
Bahadur Singh.

CHINESE TO HAVE
CIVIL POSTS

Mr. Nehru infrrmed
the Rajya Sabha today
that as fur as he under-
stands from the Chinese
clarification, they ( the
Chinese ) will withdraw
their forces behind the
McMabon Line but will
have civil posts at Dhola
& Longju, It means the
Chinese will completely
withdraw from Kibuto &
Walong areas.

MORE PRISONERS

The Chinese Red Cross
have informed Indian Red
Cro?s that tliey will release
140 (rounded & sick Indian
Prisoners next week. Of
these 17 will be released
on Wednesday at llechukn,
70 on Thursday at Da-
renzong, On the same day
63 P O.W s will be released
at Walong.

INDIA TO CLOSE HER
CONSULATES
New Delbi, Deo. 8
The Indian Consuls.,
tea General in Lhasa and
Shanghai will bo closed
from December 15. The
Chinese Government has
been asked to discontinue
its Consulates-General in
Calcutta and Bombay
from the same date.

Announcing this, a
spokesman of the lixter-
nal Affaire Ministry said
Peking had been informed
of the Indian Govern-
ment's deoision through a
Note handed over to the
Chinese Embassy here on
December 3.

The Indian Govern-
ment's deoision has b?en
taken because the restric-
tions placed by the Chi-
nese from time to time
cn the functioning of the
Consulates G e n e r a 1 in
Lhasa and Shanghai have
made it increasing difficult
for them to carry out
their normal duties, th©
spokesman said.

The local employees
of the consulates bs£
"resigned" and outsiders
bad been forbidden tc
enter them.
