lutely clean and perfect, measuring 400 by 295 mm (H. 368 by 280; B. M. C. 380 by 282
and 392 by 290), in the richly stamped original binding by Schüssler
himself, as proved by the flyleaf with the three-mount (Hodg. Nr. 2) which is also
found in the book. Unparalleled copy.

Außerordentlich seltener Druck. Bei der vollständigen Gleichheit der
Typen Herolt 1 u. Silber 3 eine unbedingt zweifelsfreie Zuschreibung an den einen
oder anderen Drucker wohl unmöglich.
Inhaltlich äußerst interessant. Paulus de Heredia, geb. ca. 1405 in Arago-
nien, ließ sich, schon bejahrt, taufen, u. bekämpfte das Judentum, bes. den
Talmud, den er früher verteidigt hatte. Er schrieb ein mystisches Buch „Iggeret Ha-
Sodot“, welches er dem Mischnah-Lehrer Nehunya u. dessen Sohn Ha-Kana zuschrieb
u. ins Lateinische übersetzte. Er verwendete aber auch Stellen aus Judah ha-Nasi, wel-
cher viel später lebte. Das Werk stellt einen Dialog zwischen dem Kaiser Antoninus u.
Neumia dar, behandelt die wichtigsten christl. Dogmen, am Schluß ermahnt Neumia
seinen Sohn, Jesus als den Messias anzuerkennen.
Stellenweise rubriziert, Initialen nicht eingemalt.
Paulus de Heredia, born in Aragon about 1405, was baptized late in
life and attacked Judaism and especially the Talmud, which he
had studied in his youth. For this purpose „he wrote a mystical book „Iggeret Ha-
Sodot“, which he ascribed to the Mishnaic teacher Nehunya ben Ha-Kana, and his
alleged son, Ha-Kana, asserting, that he had found it and translated it into Latin. In
his ignorance, P. de H. put into the mouth of Nehunya passages from the work of
Judah ha-Nasi, who lived much later, and in the work „Galie Razaya“ made him
answer eight questions, addressed to him by his Imperial friend Antoninus, in an
entirely Christian sense. He admits the chief mysteries of Christianity, e. g., the doc-
trine of the Trinity. Nehunya finally exhorts his son to recognize Jesus as the Messiah“
(Jewish Encycl.). Very rare.
