1 February - Adam Małkiewicz M.A. obtained a post in
the Chair of Early Modern Art Flistory, in place of J.
Ross M.A.
1 March - Dr. Kalinowski obtained his postdoctoral
degree.
27 April - J. Samek obtained a doctor’s degree. The
supervisor of his doctoral dissertation was Prof.
Bochnak.
1963
13 July - A systematic catalogue was introduced into the
Institute’s library.
1 December - Architect and art historian Piotr
Krakowski M.A. obtained the post of senior
assistant in the Chair of Modern and Contemporary
Art History, in place of Wanda Altendorf M.A.
1964
From the year 1964 to 1981, Adam Malkiewicz was
editorial assistant of the Prace z historii sztuki [Art
History Papers] (Zeszyty Naukowe Uniwersytetu Ja-
giellońskiego [Academic Publications of the Jagiel-
lonian University]). In the years 1984-1990, he was
editor of the Prace...
15 May - Following a resolution of the Council of the
Philosophical-Historical Faculty, Klementyna Żu-
rowska obtained a doctor’s degree.
16 October - The Council of the Philosophical-Historical
Faculty passed a motion to appoint J. Szabłowski to
the post of full professor in the Chair of Early
Modern Art History.
1964/65
Prof. Kalinowski spent a year in the Institute for
Advanced Studies in Princeton, New Jersey, USA as
temporary member.
1966
January - Dr. Ewa Chojecka who was senior assistant in
the Jagiellonian University Museum, was trans-
ferred to the Institute, together with her post.
17 March - Dr. J. Lepiarczyk obtained his postdoctoral
degree having submitted a dissertation entitled
Działalność architektoniczna Sebastiana Sierakow-
skiego. Projekty klasycy styczne i neogotyckie (1777-
1824) [Architectural Activity of Sebastian Sie-
rakowski. Classicist and Neo-Gothic Designs
(1777-1824)]. The postdoctoral degree was
approved on 30 January 1969.
1 December - Following the conferment of the doctoral
degree on 18 November 1966, Samuel Gumiński
obtained the post of senior assistant in the Chair of
Early Modern Art History (until 31 January 1970).
30 December - The State Council conferred the title of
full professor of humanities on J. Szabłowski,
together with the post of professor in the Chair of
Early Modern Art History; the professor took the
position on 1 January 1967.

1967
20 May - J. Szabłowski was elected corresponding
member of the I Department of Social Sciences of
the Polish Academy of Sciences.
15 December - A. Małkiewicz obtained his doctor’s
degree under the supervision of Prof. Bochnak.
1968
24 June - Ceremonial conferment of honorary doctor’s
degree (doctorate honoris causa) of the Jagiellonian
University on Prof. Władysław Tatarkiewicz; Prof.
Bochnak delivered the laudation.
5 December - Postdoctoral degree of Dr. Ewa Chojecka
on the basis of a dissertation entitled Dizeworyty
Kroniki Joachima Bielskiego i zaginione gobeliny
Anny Jagiellonki [Woodcuts in the Chronicle of
Joachim Bielski and the Lost Tapestries of Anna
Jagiellonka],
1969
In the spring trimester, Prof. Kalinowski stayed in The
Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland,
USA, as a visiting professor.
1 June - Dr. J. Lepiarczyk was promoted to the post of
associate professor in the Chair of Early Modern
Art History.
21 June - Piotr Krakowski completed his doctoral
dissertation under the supervision of Prof. Dobro-
wolski.
7 September - Aldona Sudacka M.A. obtained an
engineering-technical post and began working in the
Institute’s library (she worked as a librarian until 14
Sept. 1972).
30 September - Professors Adam Bochnak and Tadeusz
Dobrowolski went into retirement.
1 October - In accordance with the resolution of the
Council of the Philosophical-Historical Faculty, Prof.
Mieczysław Porębski was transferred to the Institute
from the Fine Arts Academy in Warsaw, as of 18 April.
1969/70
In connection with the reform of the secondary schooling
system, recruitment to the Institute of Art History
was withheld for a year.
Under the supervision of Prof. Kalinowski, Paul
Crossley, matriculated in the Trinity College,
Cambridge, commenced research on Polish Gothic
architecture of the 14th c. He conducted the
research in the Institute until 1972.
1970
16 January - The Council of the Philosophical-Historical
Faculty decided to appoint Ass. Prof. Porębski Head of
the Chair of Modern and Contemporary Art History.
18 February - Following a resolution of the Ministry of
Education and Higher Learning, the chairs existing
within the institutes of the Jagiellonian University
were abolished, including three chairs within the
Institute of Art History.
