PLATE XVIII.

FROM THE TEMPLE OF THESEUS AT ATHENS.

The building from which this example is taken is
one of the most perfect remains of antiquity, and is
generally supposed to be of the age of Pericles. The
various parts have an elegant contour, are well pro-
portioned, of a light character, consequently it is
well adapted for private buildings. The column in
the original is nearly six diameters in height. In
this plate part of the pediment is shewn.
