und sein Vater Oiovanni Lanti," which was without
doubt tlre most comprehensive like of Dapbael that had at that
time appeared. tlrird volume, containing man^ additional
particulars, was published in 1858.

scholars; till, in i860, a new Ddition, corrected and much en-
larged b^ tlre author, was translated into Drench bg lVl. ) riles
Dunteschut^, and, with man^ valuable annotations b^ lVI. Daul
Dacroix, published in Daris in trvo closely printed volumes
containing upwards of twelve hundred pages. Do this elaborate
boob, on which it is evident tlrat both Author and blditor must
have bestowed much labour, R-apIrael's admirers have turned
whenever tlre^ have sought for information; and it will doubtless
remain for man^ ^ears tbs best bool< of reference on all questions
pertaining to tlre great painter.
