because suitable oil could not be obtained.
Hrs cbisf of tbs order, Don Liasio, is a pious old man of ordinary cbaractsr,
treated in Hapbaei's usual manner, witb brown-grs/ sbadows, rsddislr bail-tints
and wbite ligbts. Lbs background is of a vigorous tone.
Don Laidassars, turning to tbs left, is in tbs prime of life ; be is ratber tbin, bis
complexion is dark, and tbs earnest tbougbtful expression of bis face is tbat of a
man of bigb intelligence. Lire name of tbs person represented is inscribed on
eacb portrait.
Lbsse likenesses are full of trutb and power, and we already recognise in
tbem tbs band of tbs great autbor of tbe celebrated fresco of tbs " Dispute of tbs
Doi/ Lacrament." Lbs/ passed from Vaiionrbrosa to tbe Florence Laller/,
wbsre, according to Lottari, tbe/ were erroneous!/ attributed to Lerugino.

perfect, tbe colouring of tbs Lssb, frssb and clear, and tbs drawing of tbe wbois
far less laboured tban in tbs portraits ol tbs two Doni.
Lbis picture is well preserved, and bas been late!/ added to tbs Litti
collection.
