^Itbouglr tire bands and feet are not Mite irnisbed in tbis picture, it is one of
tire most beautiful vorks ever produced by Lapbael; tire beads especially are full
of soul ancl expression.
According to Oepicis ancl lVlaristte, tlris is tire picture paintecl by Lapbael for
a gentleman of Vienna, vbicb Ire left unimisbed vben called to Lome, requesting
Iris friencl Lidollo Obirlandajo to coinplete tire Virgin's blue mantle. Ibis
assertion is borne out by tire fact tlrat tire mantis is not in Lapbael's style,
but resembles tlrat in tire " (Coronation of tire Virgin," knovn to be by
Obirlandajo.
Francis I. bougbt " of tire Viennese gentleman, ancl it
is norv in tire Louvre. Lbs original cartoon is at Idolkbam, tire seat of tire Lari
