ABYDOS I.

owner, who is called seten se heri pezetu Neicht
' The Royal Son, Commander of the Axchers,
Xekht,' and of his father, the neter nefer ' good
god,' i.e. the King. The first line of the
horizontal inscription repeats the titles of Xekht;
and an interesting point to be observed here
occurs in the fragment of the first portion,
Avhere the title seten se ne heq An[tef] ' The
royal son of the heq-pr'mce Antef appears.
The second line speaks of the het Antef em
Abdu ' Temple of Antef in Abydos,' some
remains of which were excavated this year;
and the third repeats the titles. Then MIoavs
an inscription in five lines of a religious charac-
ter ; and in the ninth line the titles again
apj)ear, followed by an invocation to the
[priests,] ?<d£-priests, children, and lectors, that
they may pray for funeral offerings, all good
and pure things, an entrance into the under-
Avorld, and a coming forth by day, for the
deceased. Osiris Temple. Dyn. XL

36. PI. lviii. A large limestone lintel [?]
inscribed with the cartouches Rd-icheper-ica and
Sen-usrt, i.e. Usertesen I. Along the face of
the stone are three faint lines of a later—
probably Xlllth Dynasty—inscription, the
cartouche in each case being erased. The first

reads anJch neter nefer neb dri ichet se Ra......

Up-uaut res meri de dnich ded usr ma Ra zetta.
' The living One, the Good God, Creator of

Things, Son of the Sun,......, beloved of

Anubis of the South, endowed with life,
stability, and power, Sun-like for ever.' The

second reads dutch Her.......Ra......

Ichent Amentet meri de.....' The living

Horus,......, Ra......, beloved of

[Osiris] Khent-Amenti, endowed [with life,
stability, etc';] and the third dutch neter

nefer neb taut Ra.....Up-uaut meh meri

de dutch etc. 'The Living One, the Good God,

Lord of the Two Lands, Ra......, beloved

of Anubis of the North, endowed with life' etc.
as before. Osiris Temenos. Dyn. XII. and
XIII.

PI. lix, 1. Fragment of an inscribed granite
block of Sebek-hotep III. The inscription
above the figure reads neter nefer neb dri ichet
Rd-Jchd-infer se Ra mer-f Sebek-hetep it'' dutch
zetta 'The Good God, the Lord, Creator of
Things, Ra-kha-nefer, Son of the Sun, his
Beloved, Sebek-hotep, endowed with life for
ever.' The Horus-name AnJch-db appears.
Osiris Temple. Dyn. XIII.

2. A large, roughly-made, altar of offerings,
inscribed with the name of a person Ad-dnehhen-
dd, born of the lady Mes-neMbt\l~\-dd. Cemetery
G. Dyn. XI.

3. Two fragments of a limestone stele with
perpendicular lines of inscription, giving seten
de hetep formulae to Ptah-nefer-her and to
liathor Lady of the House of Eternity, for the
teas of the udrtu ne ichaut hegt Sebeh-hetep mud
icheru ' Secretary at the Royal Table, Sebek-
hotep, true-voiced' ; and his wife, the seten
ichelcer Nefert-uben ' Royal Handmaid Xefert-
uben.' It should be mentioned here that the
female relatives of jiersons having the title
udrtu ne ichaut heqt very often hold the position
of seten icheker; and Ave may perhaps see a
direct conformity in the two titles, the one
being the male attendant upon the king, and
the other the female attendant upon the royal
harem. Osiris Temenos. Dyn. XIII.

PI. lx. 1. A limestone fragment, giving a
seten de hetep formula to Usdr net) Dedu neter

fortunately missing. Osiris Temple. Dyn. XII.
