Preface
Following the great success of our first Conference, we decided to convene the Second
Central European Conference of Young Egyptologists. Egypt 2001: Perspectives of Research
which was held from the 5th to the 7th of March 2001 in Warsaw.
This volume consists of the articles delivered during the Conference within four subject
groups: Archaic Period and Old Kingdom Studies, New Kingdom Studies, Language and Litera-
ture and Varia. There are also included some articles by those who were unable to participate in
the assemblage.
We wish to express our sincere appreciation for the presence of the guests and all participants.
The Organising Committee wishes to acknowledge and thank most sincerely the Board of
Directors of the Institute of Archaeology at Warsaw University and the Directors of our Insti-
tute, Professor Tomasz MIKOCKI and Professor Kazimierz LEWARTOWSKI, for their warm-
hearted encouragement.
We would like to express our deepest gratitude to Professor Jadwiga LIPINSKA and Profes-
sor Karol MYSLIWIEC for their participation in the Conference and in the Proceedings, as
well as for their inestimable encouragement, support and friendship,
We should also like to thank most sincerely the Director of the National Museum in War-
saw, Mr Ferdynand B. RUSZCZYC, for making available gratuitously the cinema hall for the
Conference.
No less cordially, we acknowledge our debt to Ms Miroslawa LATOSKA-IWASZCZUK, Ms
Ewa DULNA-RAK (the owner of the “Arte” publishing house) and Mr Dariusz GORSKI for
providing us with a clear-sighted assistance. We are very grateful to Ms Dagmara BIALEK and
Ms Matgorzata RADOMSKA who helped us with the organisation of the Conference.
We are especially indebted to Prorector Magnificus, Professor Wojciech MACIEJEWSKI;
UNIVERSITATIS VARSOVTENSIS - Fundacja Samorzadu Studentow Warsaw University and to
Mr Jan WALASZEK, the owner of the “Mardom” firm in Pultusk, for covering some of the
costs of the Conference.
This book owes a great deal especially to Ms Jadwiga IWASZCZUK and Mr Mikolaj
C. GRZYBOWSKI who participated in the completion of the book’s DTP process gratis, as
well as to Mr Vinh NGUYEN and Mr Mikolaj C. GRZYBOWSKI who advanced extensively our
work on the graphics free of charge. We also extend our grateful thanks to Mr Joe HARPER and
Mr Frederic CONSTANT who proofread the articles and to Ms Karen HAUFF who helped us
with the German text free of cost.
