The top of the house is half way from the middle to
the top, and in one half the breadth of the house.

Note. Mark the Positions lightly.

USE POSITION.

RULE FIRST.

The sides of the house are Perpendicular.

The middle and bottom Horizontal.

The top two Oblique Positions.

The stem and the sides of the tree Perpendicular.
Use Note., Position, page 49. They are curved.

USE PROPORTION.

RULE SECOND.

A window in the roof comes in the middle, half way to

the top. It is in breadth one-third of the house, and

divides itself into two parts, top and bottom.

An arch divides the house into two equal parts in height,

and is in breadth four parts of six.
The tree is divided into three parts obliquely, one be-
ginning in a line with the top of the house, the
other in the middle.
