One of the most interesting 15t11 Century broadsides. The earliest printed
publisher’s prospectus. Regiomontanus, one of the most influential mathematicians
of the i$th Century, „the first who made humanism the handmaid of Science“ sett-
led atNuremberg in 1471. There he set up a printing press of his ownwhich began
working in 1473. The present advertisement of books which were intended to
be issued, forms a most important source for the knowledge of Regiomontanus’
activity both as printer and scholar. It containts two lists, one of works by different
authors edited by Regiomontanus (22items), and another referring to his own
treatises comprising 23 items. Unfortunately Regiomontanus already died in 1476
(in Rome) so that he could accomplish only a small part of his grandiose plans.
The two above mentioned lists are followed by some very interesting remarks
(printed in long lines) referring to astronomical Instruments etc. (cf. the above
quotations); Regiomontanus is known to have introduced important improvements
in practical astronomy. The last sentence : Postremo ... cf. above, deals with
an invention which may be pointed to stereotype-printing. Regiomontanus’ early
death prevented him from the realisation of his idea. — Excellent copy with
very wide margins. Only two other copies known (Staatsbibliothek, Munich;
British Museum, London).

des XV. Jahrhunderts hrsg. von K. Burger, Nr. 4. Type 4. Nur dieses Exemplar
bekannt. Die hiermit angezeigte Ausgabe der Pantheologia erschien 1474 in zwei
Bänden. Sie ist wohl das umfangreichste Werk aus Günther Zainers Offizin. Der Text
der Anzeige lautet wie in Ruppels sowie Sensenschmidt und Kefers Ankündigungen,
vgl. Nummer 7. Sehr gut erhaltenes, etwas kurzrandiges Exemplar.
