527. An Equestrian Portrait of the Duke d’Arenberg. The
countenance, which appears to be that of a person thirty-six
years old, is seen in a three-quarter view, looking over the left
shoulder ; his long curling hair falls on a lace frill, which adorns
the neck ; and the body is clad in complete armour, with cuishes ;
a red sash girds the waist, and ssoats at the side. The figure is
represented in a hinder view, holding a baton in the right hand,
and mounted on a bay prancing charger. A youth, bearing a
helmet, is on the farther side of the horse, in the rear; and a
regiment of cavalry, defiling through the country, appear in the
distance.

as having a fair complexion and light hair. The face is seen in a

three-quarter view, and the dress is composed of black silk,
with festoons of pearls, tied with a black ribbon, in front of the
bosom. The right hand holds a bunch of roses, and the left is
slightly raising the skirt.
