CALIFORNIA.—
Carl Oscar Borg,
who is Swedish
by birth and
American by adoption, is
without doubt one of the
most interesting painters of
California, and one giving
the greatest promise. Mr.
Borg is wholly self-taught,
never having studied with
any special master, nor has
he adopted the ideas and
expressions of any par-
ticular school. But though
advice, guidance and teach-
ing may be of great help to
an artist, there can cer-
tainly be no set rule for
attaining an art education,

"THE STATUE OF ST. JOHN NEPOMUK'' BY LAJOS BRUCK ' and the °ne Wn0 by his

own efforts, studies and

absence of anything pertaining to mannerism in his observations, reaches the goal all by himself, is
output. A. S. L. unquestionably bound to show the most originality.
