“RAIN.” WOODCUT
BY W. A. KERMODE

Mr. George Sheringham's exhibition of
“ Paintings and Decorations,” at the
Leicester Galleries, is very definitely im-
portant as a demonstration of the capacities
of an artist who has in recent years made
many valuable contributions to the art of
our time. In this show he proves once
more that he is a decorator with an ex-
traordinary fertility of invention, an ex-
ceptional originality of outlook, and an
unusual correctness of taste, and he gives

delightful evidence of his ability to dis-
cover constantly new directions in which
he can express convincingly his sense of
design. The variety of his achievement is
as remarkable as its admirably sustained
merit. In the same galleries are some
cleverly suggested flower paintings by Mr.
J. B. Manson and a series of caricatures by
“ Quiz,” who is a sound and expressive
draughtsman with a strong perception of
character and a genial sense of humour.
