not performed in this city of art. The
artist has etched Ellen Tels of Moscow
fame, Kitty Starling, Annie Osborn, Isa
Marsen, Mila Cirul, Joachim von Seewitz,
Maria Ley, and Ronny Johansson, the
charming native of Stockholm who delights
Vienna every season. In all these etchings
Max Pollax has succeeded in catching not
only the movements of the dancers, but the
very essence and spirit of the dancing. He
gives reality to his subjects, life and vitalityof
expression to each dancer in his or her own
peculiar characteristics ; there is rhythm of
movement, rhythm of music in each move-
ment rendered with that poetic feeling
which is everywhere to be met with in his
etchings whatever their subject may be. His
technique is bold and forcible and he uses
