BARCELONA.—There is a group of a
certain importance, formed by some of
our modern artists, chiefly of the conserva-
tive school, having a special predilection
for the painting of “ Manolas " (Madri-
lenian girls of low class, loud in dress and
manners) and characteristic Spanish types.
The enormous praise earned of late years
by the immortal Goya, the master of the
masters and one of the greatest figures of
modern painting, has influenced decisively
the formation of the said group, whose
