HELLER, Hans, 6 hi Immenhoj,
Hamburg.
Herr Heller is a teacher at theKunstgewerbe
Schuleat Hamburg. His numerous designs
for domestic interiors, practical in form and
harmonious in their colour schemes, have
made him well known. For the cabin illus-
trated here (p. n), pear-wood has been
employed, the entrance, walls, ceiling and
window frames being enamelled white, and
striped material used for the upholstery.
HIRSCHFELD, Ludwig, 6 Meiei
Otto Strasse, Berlin, W.
The most recent important work in archi-
tecture which Herr Hirschfeld has exe-
cuted is the country house “ Kirstein ” at
Lindhard, near Leipzig, to which our illus-
tration relates. He is an official architect
to the Government.

HOFFMANN, Professor Josef, Im-
perial Arts and Crafts Schools, Vienna.
Professor Hoffmann is one of the leaders of
the modern movement in Austria. In 1897 he
joined the Vienna “Secession” and designed
and arranged some interesting exhibition in-
teriors for that society. In 1899 he became

professor at the School of Applied Art, and in
1903 founded, in conjunction with Professor
Moser and others, the organisation known as
the “ Wiener Werkstatte,” to which he devoted
his whole attention on his retirement from the
“Secession.” His decorative work,
furniture and objets d’art serve to
show that his designs are based on
a purely architectural foundation,
and he combines beauty of form and
workmanship with utility. He has
designed numerous villas, notably
those on the “ Hohe Warte,” a
plateau situated in the midst of a
hilly country. Amongst his most
important works in architecture are
the workmen’s hotel at Kladno;
the Sanatorium at Purkersdorf; and
the building of the “ Kunstschau ”
Exhibition. Twenty illustrations
of Professor Hoffmann’s designs,
including several views of the Sana-
torium just mentioned, appeared
in the Special Summer Number of
The Studio, 1906, devoted to the
Art Revival in Austria.
