SEIDL, Professor Emanuel

Professor von Seidl is one of the best
known and most successful architects
in South Germany, and has designed,
and in part equipped, numerous mer-
cantile houses, residences, country
mansions, castles, &c., both in Ger-
many and beyond its borders. His
last important work was the chief
restaurant in the Exhibition Park at
Munich, which has been acclaimed
on all hands as a most brilliant
architectural achievement. Professor
Seidl is artistic adviser to the Ger-
man Imperial Commission for the
Universal Exhibition to be held at
Brussels next year. The garden seat
designed by him, which is illustrated
on this page, was executed by Herren
Beissbarth and Hoffmann, of Man-
heim.

SELLERS, J. Henry, 78 Cross Street,
Manchester.
As an architect Mr. Sellers is well known in the
North of England and to visitors to the Royal
Academy, where his work is usually to be seen
in the Architectural room. He has made
several designs for Messrs. Pilkington’sTile and
Pottery Company, one of which, a marble
mantel with lustre decoration, is reproduced
on the opposite page. This was shown in
Messrs. Pilkington’s kiosk at the Franco-
British Exhibition held in London last year.

SIMPSON, Arthur W., The Handicrafts,
Kendal.
Mr. Simpson designs furniture and artistic
woodwork, for which he has executed some
admirable carving. He has also devoted his
attention to ecclesi -
astical work, and
has recently carried
out an important
commission at
Grisedale Hall,
near Hawkshead.
